10 of Korea’s Top 500 Listed Companies Achieved 94 Consecutive Profitable Quarters, Outperforming Samsung Electronics

SEOUL, Sept. 14 (Korea Bizwire) — Among South Korea’s top 500 listed companies, 10 firms, including Hyundai Mobis, SK Telecom, Korea Zinc and Shinsegae, have been profitable for 94 consecutive quarters. 

However, among the companies that have sustained long-term profitability, several have slipped to losses due to the global economic downturn and the semiconductor market slowdown, which deepened starting from the second half of last year, after enjoying a prolonged period in the black.

A total of 17 companies, including Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, reported losses starting from the latter half of last year, bringing an end to their streak of consecutive profitable quarters.

Business data tracker CEO Score conducted an analysis of quarterly financial performance for 352 companies that submitted quarterly reports among the nation’s top 500 companies. 

The analysis showed that 10 companies, namely KT&G, SK Telecom, Handsome, Korea Zinc, S-1, CJ ENM, Shinsegae, Hyundai Mobis, Yuhan Corporation and Kukdo Chemical, consistently recorded profits for 94 straight quarters spanning from 2000 to the second quarter of this year. The analysis was based on non-consolidated results, excluding subsidiary outcomes. 

Following these companies, others maintaining consecutive profitability until the second quarter of this year included Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance (93 quarters), Kumho Petrochemical (91 quarters), Kwangdong Pharmaceutical (90 quarters), Kiswire (90 quarters), LG Household & Healthcare (89 quarters), NCSoft (88 quarters), GS EPS (89 quarters), LS Electric (87 quarters), Naver (86 quarters), Kakao (86 quarters), Hyundai E&C (86 quarters) and POSCO International (86 quarters).
