3 in 10 Koreans Enjoyed Walking Tours Last Year: Survey

SEOUL, April 20 (Korea Bizwire)Three out of 10 South Koreans enjoyed walking tours last year as a way to improve health and relieve stress, a survey showed Tuesday.

According to a survey conducted by the Korea Tourism Organization of 4,000 Koreans over 15 years of age, 35.2 percent of the respondents said that they took walking tours last year, up 2 percentage points from a year ago.

As for the motive behind their participation in walking tours (multiple answers possible), 67.6 percent cited the desire to improve their physical health, followed by sympathy with nature at 52.3 percent and relieving stress at 50.9 percent.

The most famous walking tour course was Jeju Olle Trail, which was favored by 16.6 percent of respondents, followed by Haeparang Trail along the eastern coast at 8.3 percent and Galmaetgil Trail in the southeastern port city of Busan at 5.1 percent.

Among those who enjoyed walking tours, 69.4 percent said they enjoyed the tours in a day trip format, far higher than the 30.6 percent who preferred an overnight trip.
