“Changdeokgung Palace Mural” Media Art
SEOUL, Nov. 5 (Korea Bizwire) — Two of Korea’s most treasured cultural masterpieces are being reimagined in vivid digital form to greet international visitors arriving at Incheon International Airport.
The National Palace Museum of Korea announced Tuesday that it will unveil two new high-definition media art videos at the airport’s Traditional Culture Media Wall, a 150-meter-long LED installation stretching across the arrival hall of Terminal 1. The project is a collaboration with the National Heritage Promotion Agency and Incheon International Airport Corporation.

One of the new videos features murals from Changdeokgung Palace’s Heejeongdang, Daejojeon, and Gyeonghungak halls—known as bubyeokhwa, or wall paintings on silk affixed to palace walls.
These 19th-century works, considered the final paintings of the Joseon royal court, are recreated with three-dimensional graphics that simulate the depth and texture of the originals, offering viewers the sensation of walking through the palace’s restricted halls.

Another video presents National Treasures 530, a series by Korean-Colombian artist Gala Porras-Kim.
The piece reinterprets heritage from both South and North Korea through delicately rendered colored-pencil drawings, using light-based animation to convey the enduring beauty of the peninsula’s cultural legacy.
The last royal court painting of the Joseon Dynasty, a masterpiece mural from Changdeokgung Palace, showcased in an exhibition at the Deoksugung branch of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in August this year.
The National Palace Museum will also host an interactive event from November 19 to 22 at the airport’s Terminal 1 arrivals concourse, showcasing the new media works as part of its “Visit National Heritage” campaign.
