SEOUL, Aug. 4 (Korea Bizwire) – Nearly 400 people were treated at hospital emergency rooms for heat-related illnesses last week as the scorching heat set in after the end of the annual monsoon season, government data showed Sunday.
According to data from the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, 507 hospitals across the nation reported 384 cases of heat-related illnesses between Monday and Friday, with 114 cases occurring on Thursday alone.
As the road becomes too hot, water is being sprayed on the road surface. The watering process cools down the radiant heat of the road and reduces the body temperature.
Four people also died from suspected heat-related causes during this period. One person died in Seoul and another in the southeastern city of Busan on Tuesday, while the two others died in the southeastern Gyeongsang provinces on Friday.

An intense heat wave has gripped the nation since last week following the end of the rainy monsoon season, with temperatures exceeding 35°C in many parts of the country and reaching nearly 40°C in the southeastern city of Yangsan on Saturday.
