SEOUL, Jul. 24 (Korea Bizwire) — Nearly 4 out of 10 South Koreans have plans to take time off this summer, a poll showed Tuesday.

According to the survey of some 5,000 people by the Korea Transport Institute (KOTI), 36.1 percent of the respondents said they are planning some vacation time, up 10.5 percentage points from a year earlier.

The poll also showed that 36.7 percent of the respondents said they have no plans to go on vacation this summer, down 11.6 percentage points from 2017.

Most respondents said they plan to go on vacation between late July and early August, with 45.5 percent of them saying that the schedule was recommended by their companies.

The average vacation-related cost for per household came to 718,000 won (US$632), higher than the 656,000 won last year, KOTI’s data showed.

The findings also revealed 83 percent of those surveyed were planning to travel domestically, while 17 percent opted for trips abroad.

Of those who have no vacations plans, 44 percent cited economic reasons, with 11 percent citing scheduling, the survey said.
