43 pct of South Koreans Read Literature Last Year: Survey

SEOUL, Dec. 22 (Korea Bizwire)Roughly 40 percent of South Koreans read works of literature such as poetry, novels and essays last year, with each person reading an average of two books.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism conducted a survey of 2,000 citizens over 15 years of age, which showed that the younger the age and the higher the income, the more likely individuals were to read books.

Roughly one third of the respondents had bought books, with the percentage higher among those with higher educational backgrounds.

When it came to the type of book, 40.9 percent bought hard copy books, 10.9 percent e-books and 5.2 percent audiobooks.

Citizens in their teens and 20s were 10 times more likely to use e-books than those in their 60s.
