UIRYEONG, Oct. 16 (Korea Bizwire) – Recently, there has been a lot of excitement surrounding the persimmons from the oldest persimmon tree in Korea, estimated to be around 500 years old. This tree is a special natural monument, recognized as such in 2008.

On Monday, officials in Gyeongnam’s Uiryeong-gun shared that the ancient persimmon tree, known as Natural Monument No. 492, located in Baegok-ri, Jeonggok-myeon, has produced fruit. This is quite remarkable because the tree hadn’t borne fruit since the 2000s due to its age and reduced ability to reproduce.

Four persimmons appeared in 2020 after the tree received some special care to strengthen its weakened parts in September 2019. This year, after three more years, the tree surprised everyone by bearing fruit once again, with a whopping 50 persimmons opening up, causing a lot of excitement among the local community.

It’s worth noting that most persimmon trees typically live for 200 to 250 years, so this tree has surpassed that by quite a bit in terms of age. This remarkable tree stands at an impressive 28 meters tall with a 4-meter circumference at chest height. It’s also distinguished by its large size and thick branches, which are unusual features for persimmon trees.
