SEOUL, Aug. 19 (Korea Bizwire) – During the past 4 years, approximately 60,000 drivers have been caught driving to work while they were drunk.
According to the police, the number of drivers caught for drunk driving between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. during the 2011 to 2014 period was 59,407. Among them, 25,268 had their license suspended, and 32,915 licenses were revoked.
The number of drunk drivers showed a decrease from 2011 (15,217 drivers) to 2012 (14,354 drivers), but started increasing in 2013 (14,920 drivers) and 2014 (14,916 drivers).
Officials offer the following advice to drivers about how to avoid drunk driving in the morning. “After drinking the day before, many drivers tend to think they can sleep off the alcohol and be able to drive in the morning. However, the alcohol does not wear off. We recommend that drivers avoid driving the day after they drink, and use public transportation when going to work the next morning.”
