7-Eleven Opens ‘DT Lab Store’ to Test Next-Generation Digital Technology

SEOUL, Aug. 4 (Korea Bizwire)Convenience store chain 7-Eleven on Tuesday opened a new store that will serve as a place to test future operational environments of the future using next-generation digital technology.

The DT Lab Store that opened on the first floor of Lotte Data Communication Co.’s headquarters building in southern Seoul, is a space to test the safety and effectiveness of digital technology before it is rolled out at affiliated stores.

To this end, the new store will run a facial recognition-based entry management and payment system.

The store also introduced a ‘3D LiDAR’ system that seeks the best-optimized product operational strategy by analyzing the movement of customers within the store.

This store also features an artificial intelligence (AI) system that detects inventory level in real time and sends this data to store managers and the integrated store control system that enables users to check the temperature and humidity of the stores as well as the temperature of equipment like refrigerators.
