SEOUL, Jul. 11 (Korea Bizwire) — Following formal approval by the government, feature films produced in North Korea will be screened at the 22nd Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) to be held for ten days starting tomorrow.
Festival organizers included the special screening of nine North Korean films following the conciliatory mood of the inter-Korean talks held earlier in the year.
Of the nine films to be screened for the first time in South Korea, “The Story of Our Home” is especially notable for snatching awards for top film and best leading actress at the 2016 Pyongyang International Film Festival.
“Let’s Keep the Traffic Order,” a North Korean animation film for children, and other films will allow local moviegoers a glimpse into the hermit kingdom.
The screening will also mark the first time that South Korean audiences will have full access to North Korean films, following strict viewing regulations in the past.
At previous screenings of North Korean films, every single audience member had to gain approval from the government following a strict selection process.
