SEOUL, Oct. 16 (Korea Bizwire) — Seoul plans to open the Center for Protection of Rights of Emotional Workers on October 16 near Anguk station to collect complaints and run therapeutic programs for emotional workers.
Emotional labor refers to a type of work that involves engaging with customers without revealing one’s feelings. Call center employees, flight attendants, bank tellers, health personnel, and other jobs in services or sales often require emotional labor.
Out of 7.4 million emotional workers in South Korea, 2.6 million are known to be working in Seoul.
The Center for Protection of Rights of Emotional Workers will provide free psychological counseling and therapy for emotional treatment, as well as courses on preventing emotional harm.
The center will also conduct surveys on emotional labor to monitor the process of implementing the Guidelines on the Protection of Emotional Labor that Seoul announced last May, and offer smart consulting services to the city’s public institutions as well as hold various forums to raise awareness on emotional labor.
