SEOUL, Jan. 15 (Korea Bizwire) — Many arts and humanities graduates in South Korea apply for jobs irrelevant to their majors, a recent study has showed.
Incruit, a local online job placement portal teamed up with part-time job app Albacall to conduct a survey on 733 job seekers, only 45.2 percent of whom said they applied for jobs related to their field of study.
The remaining 54.8 percent said they had also applied for jobs irrelevant to their major. As for the reason, 51.3 percent said there were no job openings in their field of study.
Others said they had career experience in fields not related to their major (16 percent), they lost interest in their field of study (15.3 percent), and annual salary and working conditions were more important than finding a job related to their major (14.2 percent).

Among respondents, 71.4 percent applied to multiple job openings that were both related and not related to their major, while only 42.1 percent of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) majors did likewise.
Among arts and humanities graduates applying for jobs not related to their field of study, 61.9 percent applied for positions that did not require any experience, while 47.4 percent applied for positions with career experience.
