SEOUL, March 24 (Korea Bizwire) — President Moon Jae-in will ride an electric vehicle (EV) after he leaves office.
According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s tender notice for the purchase (lease) of a vehicle for the use of the soon-to-be former president that was posted on the Public Procurement Service’s Government e-Procurement System, Moon will ride Hyundai Motor Co.’s electrified Genesis G80 sedan for 48 months after leaving public life.
The monthly lease will cost 2.12 million won (US$1,743) or 102 million won in total over four years.
This will be the first EV gift to a retired president.
“Former presidents were provided with top-of-the-line domestically produced sedans when they left office. Moon, however, chose an EV in consideration of the environmental benefits.” a ministry official said.
