SEOUL, March 9 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korean logistics company Hanjin Transportation Co. said Wednesday it will launch a trial operation of cargo bikes to strengthen its eco-friendly transportation drive.
Cargo bikes are electric-powered bikes designed to carry loads, particularly in areas that cannot be accessed by parcel delivery trucks.
Hanjin’s cargo bike, made by ECOVE, a startup that was launched as an in-house venture at Hyundai Motor Co., can carry a load of up to 130 kilograms.
The company launched the trial operation using one cargo bike and one dedicated driver at an apartment complex in Songpa District in Seoul.
Upon the arrival of the parcel delivery truck, the dedicated driver moves the parcels to the cargo bike and delivers them within the apartment complex.
