BUSAN, Jul. 4 (Korea Bizwire) – For the second consecutive year, Busan has secured the sixth position among Asian cities in the “Global Liveability Index 2024″ report, published by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), a British economic analysis firm.
According to Busan city officials on July 3, the EIU annually evaluates and ranks major global cities based on their living conditions and overall quality of life. The assessment covers five key areas: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure.
Busan achieved an overall score of 87 points, maintaining its high performance in the upper 80s for the second year running. This score allowed the city to retain its sixth-place ranking among Asian cities, unchanged from the previous year.
“This consistent ranking underscores Busan’s commitment to providing a high quality of life for its residents,” a city spokesperson said. “It reflects our ongoing efforts to improve across all evaluated sectors.”
The port city has also performed well in other recent global indices. Busan ranked 27th out of 121 financial cities (9th in Asia) in the Global Financial Centres Index and placed 14th among 79 cities (3rd in Asia) in the Intelligent Community Forum’s Smart21 Communities.
Busan Mayor Park Heong-joon emphasized the city’s natural and cultural assets. “Busan is a livable city blessed with natural beauty and warm-hearted people,” Park stated. “We are committed to actively promoting the charm and value of Busan’s urban brand to the world.”
