SEOUL, Dec. 15 (Korea Bizwire) — Samsung C&T’s construction division has signed a partnership with a leading Polish small modular reactor (SMR) developer as part of a broader push to expand its nuclear business across Central and Eastern Europe, the company said Sunday.

The builder entered into a memorandum of understanding with Synthos Green Energy (SGE), which is spearheading Poland’s early-stage SMR initiative. SGE aims to deploy up to 24 SMRs, including the country’s first SMR power plant in the early 2030s, using the BWRX-300 model—an advanced 300-megawatt boiling water reactor developed by GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy.

Samsung C&T, which in October reached a separate agreement with GE Vernova Hitachi to pursue SMR opportunities in Europe, Southeast Asia and the Middle East, said the new partnership will focus on expanding SMR projects into markets such as the Czech Republic, Hungary, Lithuania, Bulgaria and Romania.

The two companies will also cooperate on feasibility studies, site assessments and environmental impact reviews required for Poland’s SMR rollout.

“This collaboration marks an important step in securing a foothold in Poland and Central and Eastern Europe,” said Oh Se-cheol, president and CEO of Samsung C&T.

Rafał Kasprów, CEO of Synthos Green Energy, said combining Samsung C&T’s global nuclear construction expertise with SGE’s SMR development capabilities would strengthen the prospects for Poland’s SMR program and help deliver “safe and sustainable energy solutions across Europe.”
