SEOUL, July 27 (Korea Bizwire) – Operators of three major food delivery apps, including Baedal Minjok, Yogiyo and Baedaltong, have joined together to promote safety awareness for delivery people, notorious for their disorderly manner in driving their motorcycles.
According to the National Police Agency, it has signed an MoU with the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA) and the three delivery apps to root out the disorderly motorcycle riding by the delivery people.
Following the agreement, the delivery app operators will distribute stickers encouraging safe riding and guidelines for safe delivery to its contracted restaurants. The police agency and the KOSHA will also distribute such safety stickers to other food delivery restaurants and franchise delivery restaurants respectively.
For restaurant owners who actively share and enforce the safety guidelines with their delivery people, the police will waive fines against them when their delivery people are busted for riding on sidewalks.
According to the Road Traffic Act, when an employee is fined, his or her employer can be also fined under joint penal provisions. When employers try to prevent such violations by close oversight, they can avoid the fines.
An official at the police agency said, “In the past five years, a total of 125 delivery men died due to traffic accidents. Through collaboration among the parties involved, we will try to secure their safety and prevent safety accidents.”
