SEOUL, Jan.20 (Korea Bizwire) – SsangYong Motor announced that it will be launching the ‘Kaiser’, a special version of its Chairman W luxury sedan.
Officials at Ssangyong Motor commented that they will be releasing the special trim of the Chairman W model during the first half of the year as a strategy to compete against luxury cars. The model will have additional high-end features compared to the stock Chairman W.
The Kaiser is expected to compete with luxury brands such as Hyundai Motor’s Genesis EQ900 once it is launched.
Ssangyong Motor registered the trademark rights to the ‘Kaiser’ name last September.
The Chairman is Ssangyong’s flagship sedan launched in 1997 through a technical partnership established with Germany’s Mercedes-Benz in 1993.
However, sales of the vehicle fell after the launch of the all-new Chairman W model in 2008, because of the lack of a succeeding model.
Last year 1,290 units were sold, which was an 18.4 percent decrease compared to the previous year.
