SEOUL, Feb. 28 (Korea Bizwire) – Reversing his initial denial of sexual abuse allegations, popular comedic actor Oh Dal-soo issued an apology on Wednesday, saying he “deeply repents” for his wrongdoing.
The move came about two weeks after the accusation was first brought against him on Feb. 15.
“A spate of things that happened recently is all my fault. I apologize with all my heart for causing troubles to so many people. I also bow to apologize to all those who were hurt in the past or are suffering presently because of me,” Oh said in a statement.
“Frankly speaking, I couldn’t remember clearly about those whose hearts were hurt despite tremendous condemnation and rebuke … I deeply repent over this.”
Oh was suspected of sexually assaulting several women in the 1990s when he belonged to the Yeonhee Street Theatre Troupe, one of the country’s top theater groups.
Oh broke his long silence on Monday, belatedly denying the allegation as groundless. But he practically acknowledged his sexual misconduct after a theater actress appeared on TV and alleged that he groped her at a motel in Seoul.
In the statement, he also personally apologized to the unidentified victim who came forward to disclose her experience of sexual abuse on the Internet and the actress who spoke out on TV.
