SEOUL, South Korea, March 22 (Korea Bizwire) – A new approach by the Kangwon Land Addiction Care Center (KLACC) to the treatment of gambling addiction is attracting international attention, as foreign government officials flock to discover a unique incentive system that helps people overcome gambling addiction.

The center’s newly introduced plan designed to help relieve gambling addiction saw nearly 30 gambling addicts participate after the first trial month.

As entry to Kangwon Land Casino is restricted to 15 times per month, each patient who participates is entitled to up to 500,000 won per month.

Once a reward is given for a day, the number of times the patient can visit the casino establishment per month is forever lowered.

Since the center began taking applications, around 70 per cent of the addicts opted for an option that restricts visits to Kangwon Land Casino to less than five times a month.

The scheme is currently only available to those who have visited casinos more than 60 days within the last year.

Last Sunday, Japanese government officials visited the center to learn and benchmark their gambling treatment programs prior to the decriminalization of casinos in Japan, which is expected to spawn openings of gambling establishments in the country.

Singaporean government officials also visited the center in the hopes of learning effective ways to tackle gambling addiction.

An official from the center said yesterday, “This great reaction we are receiving is unexpected.

“We hope our new incentive scheme can change the general approach to treatment of gambling addiction, by choice rather than by force.”
