SEOUL, April 24 (Korea Bizwire) – Mobile GS Shop, a Korean retail giant, announced on April 20 that computer software used to automatically recommend products has recently won an online competition against one of the retailer’s merchandisers.

Of the more than 30,000 customers participating in the event, two-thirds of them favored the software. The promotion was held for five days, starting on April 14. The idea for the campaign came from the historic match between South Korean Go master Lee Se-dol and the global IT giant Google’s artificial intelligence program AlphaGo.

During the promotion, the merchandiser recommended one low-price item every day by offering discounts of up to 70 percent. However, the software displayed products that had already been viewed by customers on the website, along with other popular items.
