SEOUL, March 2 (Korea Bizwire)A recent study showed that a memory training program called Brain Tok Tok that was built for South Korea’s top mobile carrier SK Telecom Co.’s artificial intelligence (AI) speaker NUGU can help to delay the advancement of dementia.

A research team from Seoul National University College of Medicine conducted an experiment in which 80 seniors over the age of 80 were divided into two groups.

The team asked one group to use the memory training program three times a day for a full eight weeks, while the other group did not, to compare the two group’s cognitive abilities.

The results showed that the group that used the program showed a 13 percent improvement in delayed recall, 11.4 percent improvement in language fluency, and 15.5 percent improvement in backward digit span.

Language fluency is closely linked to flexible thinking, while backward digit span is a kind of short-term memory that impacts learning capabilities.

“This memory training is similar to an offline metamemory training conducted by medical institutions to help treat dementia,” the research team said.

“It means that Brain Tok Tok can also delay the advancement of dementia by more than 30 percent, just like offline training.”
