SEOUL, Oct. 24 (Korea Bizwire) — Pusan National University (PNU) said Thursday it will become the first university in South Korea to introduce artificial intelligence–powered smart glasses designed for real-time translation and communication across multiple languages.
The AI Translation Glasses are being rolled out as part of the university’s “AX Transformation Project,” which explores how advanced AI technologies can be integrated into education, research, and administration.
Developed by Expert INC, the glasses project captions translated speech directly into the wearer’s field of vision—providing instant multilingual subtitles during lectures, seminars, or international meetings.
The device, which debuted at the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in the U.S., is billed as the world’s lightest AI smart glasses and supports over 20 languages, including Korean, English, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, and French, with an accuracy rate exceeding 98 percent.
By combining cutting-edge speech recognition and natural language processing, the device reportedly delivers faster and more accurate interpretation than standard mobile translation apps.
PNU will pilot the glasses in classrooms, administrative offices, and graduate seminars, expanding their use across campus after evaluating their effectiveness. The university also plans to employ the technology in mental health counseling for international students, aiming to eliminate language barriers and create a more inclusive academic environment.
In collaboration with the Korea Management Association Consulting (KMAC), PNU will also establish a joint framework to ensure the ethical and reliable application of AI across campus.
“By breaking down linguistic barriers, we hope to build a learning environment where global talent can thrive freely,” said PNU President Choi Jae-won.
