SEOUL, June 16 (Korea Bizwire) — A ceremony to award the Ambassador for Peace Medal took place on Wednesday (local time) at City Hall in San Francisco.
The medal is given by the Ministry of Patriots and Veteran Affairs as a token of appreciation from the Korean government and people to Korean War heroes.
Yoon Sang-soo, consul general at the South Korean consulate in San Francisco, presented the medals to three Korean War veterans.
The award ceremony was held as part of the 70th-anniversary event of the South Korea-U.S. alliance, jointly organized by the South Korean consulate general in San Francisco and the city of San Francisco.
The event was attended by California Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis, San Francisco Mayor London Breed, and other local leaders in celebration of the alliance.
To commemorate the occasion, San Francisco City Hall was illuminated with red and blue lights, symbolizing the Korean national flag, the Taegeukgi.
