GWANGJU, May 9 (Korea Bizwire) — Students in the city of Gwangju will now be required to take courses on labor rights each year.
The Gwangju Metropolitan Council passed legislation on Wednesday requiring all students in Gwangju to take courses on labor rights.
Schools that currently provide optional courses on labor rights, and other specially designated schools will now be required to select a human rights instructor, who will also be obliged to participate in a job training session.
The schools will now be responsible for designing yearly plans for labor rights education, and including a labor rights session in the student rights promotion plan.
“The legislation, once enacted, will allow future laborers to learn the proper values of labor, and grow as individuals capable of protecting their own rights and interests,” said Councilor Jang Yeon-ju, who first proposed the bill.
