ANSAN, March 21 (Korea Bizwire)An exclusive swimming pool where students can learn professional survival swimming will be established in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province.

The construction of the swimming pool began at Ansan Lake Park on Friday.

Investing 19.5 billion won (US$16 million), the city plans to finish the construction of the swimming pool by the end of this year.

The swimming pool will open next year to educate students about survival swimming, which became mandatory following the tragic Sewol ferry sinking in 2014.

A new dome will surround the old outdoor swimming pool to allow for training sessions regardless of the weather, equipped with a 25-meter-long, six-lane swimming pool and a wave pool.

The Sewol ferry sank off the country’s southwestern coast in 2014, killing 304 passengers. Of them, 262 were students and teachers from Ansan’s Danwon High School.
