SEOUL, July 13 (Korea Bizwire)Apple Inc. is being criticized for listing all of Mount Paektu’s Cheonji crater lake in northern North Korea as part of Chinese territory on its map application on iPhones, iPads and Macbooks.

The Voluntary Agency Network of Korea (VANK), a South Korean civic organization, said Tuesday that searching for ‘Mount Paektu’s Cheonji crater lake’ on Apple Map returns false information that the entire Cheonji crater lake is part of China.

The map even introduces the crater lake as “China, Changbai Mountain’s Cheonji”.

Other portal websites like Naver and Google properly delineate the China-North Korea border.

The Cheonji crater lake was divided into China’s northwest region and North Korea’s southeast region after the two countries signed a boundary treaty in 1962.

China selected Mount Paektu as one of the 10 most beautiful mountains in China, promoting the mountain as Mount Changbai.

Beijing claims that its mountain range has both historically and culturally been a part of China since ancient times.
