SEOUL, June 22 (Korea Bizwire) — As the coronavirus pandemic continues to rage on, smartphone apps that assist in child rearing are gaining popularity.
The usage rate of Brush Monster, an augmented reality (AR)-based app for children developed by Kitten Planet to teach them how to brush their teeth, has quadrupled since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.
The accumulated number of users has surpassed 200,000 people, with more than 240,000 downloads reported on Google Play and Apple’s App Store.
The app is used primarily by children between 4 and 10 years old who are just learning how to brush their teeth by themselves.
The app uses the phone’s front camera to capture the child’s face, and creates an AR-based character on the smartphone screen, which guides the child to brush his/her teeth step-by-step.
Mom Sitter, a smartphone app that introduces local babysitters, has reached a user base of 900,000 people after the pandemic prompted parents to opt for 1-to-1 child care services.
Last year’s annual transactions on Mom Sitter were estimated to have reached 130 billion won (US$114.8 million).
