SEOUL, Jan. 28 (Korea Bizwire) — Gimhae Arts and Sports Center’s Yunseul Gallery is holding an exhibit entitled ‘Asia Independent Art’ until the end of February, announced the gallery on January 27. The painting above, titled ‘AK47girl-wave,’ is by Taiwanese artist Chen Ching-Yao, and is one of the works featured in the exhibition. Some controversies arose as the man depicted in the painting resembles a certain North Korean leader.

However, the gallery explained that the painting is only to deliver a message that if someone like Kim Jong-Un can be a leader, then a mere painter can be a leader, too. The gallery also explained that the man in the painting is a self-portrait of the painter Chen. The gallery added that Chen has been painting to criticize the injustice in power, and the girl appearing in the painting is only there to mock the macho display of power.
