SEOUL, Jan. 13 (Korea Bizwire)There is a significant buzz around art in the construction industry on the back of the gentrification of apartment complexes.

In collaboration with the artwork platform ‘Open Gallery,’ construction company Hyundai Engineering Co. developed an artwork subscription service for the communal areas of apartments last month.

This service allows users to exhibit artworks selected by professionals in communal areas of apartments, including the entrance to the lobby of the main complex and the waiting space by elevators, as well as to replace them with new ones on a quarterly basis.

The Gyeonggi Housing & Urban Development Corp. also launched a trial project for the installation of artworks in public rental apartments.

Hannam the Hill located in central Seoul is famous as an upscale apartment complex using high-priced artworks.

A string of artworks by globally famous artists including Yayoi Kusama’s “Pumpkin” are installed therein.

Major South Korean builder Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. also applied a special design for an apartment complex in Sokcho, Gangwon Province that was built in October last year, turning the underground parking space into an art gallery.
