SEOUL, Feb. 12 (Korea Bizwire) —  Samsung Electronics said Thursday that it is supplying high-performance monitors to the short track speed skating venue at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, supporting both officiating accuracy and live broadcast operations at one of the Games’ most exacting events.

In short track, where medals are often decided by a margin of 0.001 seconds, the smallest details — a blade’s position at the finish line or a fleeting brush between skaters — can determine victory. Video review systems therefore require a level of precision and reliability beyond that of consumer-grade displays.

For on-site video adjudication in the “field of play” area, Samsung has installed its 37-inch ViewFinity S8 (S80UD) monitors. The 4K UHD screens, with a resolution of 3,840 by 2,160 pixels and a 16:9 aspect ratio, provide enlarged and highly detailed views of race footage.

Compared with conventional 32-inch displays, the larger screens allow officials to scrutinize critical moments with greater clarity, supported by enhanced color reproduction and contrast.

Samsung has also equipped the video control room operated by Olympic Broadcasting Services, the official broadcaster under the International Olympic Committee, with its 55-inch Odyssey Ark monitors.

Featuring a curved 4K UHD display and a 1-millisecond response time, the screens are designed to handle multiple real-time feeds while minimizing distortion and motion blur — essential for rapid broadcast decisions.

Lee Heon, a vice president in Samsung’s Visual Display Business, said the company plans to continue delivering displays tailored to global sporting events and other demanding operational environments.

As the Winter Games approach, the technology behind the scenes may prove as critical as the athletes on the ice — ensuring that races measured in thousandths of a second are judged with equal precision.
