SEOUL, July 17 (Korea Bizwire) — Some 800 competitors participated in the 2023 Lotte Aquathlon competition held on Sunday.
The sports competition involves swimming 1.5 kilometers across Seokchon Lake in southeastern Seoul and running up 2,917 stairs to reach the top of the 123-story Lotte World Tower, South Korea’s tallest skyscraper.
Initiated by Lotte Property & Development Co. last year, the participants ranged in age from 18 to 72, with the oldest being 72 and the youngest being 18.
Foreign competitors from the U.S., Britain and other countries also took part.
Lotte P&D and Songpa District have been collaborating since 2021 to improve the water quality of Seokchon Lake.
The transparency of the lake has improved in recent months, reaching a depth of over two meters.
