SEOUL, July 4 (Korea Bizwire) — A growing number of South Koreans are planning to travel overseas this year amid an endemic COVID-19 era.
Global credit card giant Visa Inc. conducted a nationwide survey of 1,000 adults over 18 years of age, in which 55.1 percent of respondents said they planned to travel abroad within the next 12 months, marking an increase of 8.7 percentage points from the previous year.
Among the preferred destinations, Japan ranked highest at 26.7 percent, followed by Australia at 12.9 percent and Vietnam at 6.3 percent.
Australia, in particular, has gained attention as the second most popular travel destination this year, surpassing its absence from the top 10 list last year.
South Koreans have become more familiar with various Australian cities and sights such as Sydney, Melbourne, the Great Ocean Road, Geelong, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth.
The hosting of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia seems to have further endeared South Koreans to the country.
