ULSAN, Sept. 20 (Korea Bizwire)Anniversaries commemorating 100 days are a “thing” in South Korea, extending to relationships, babies, and even baby dolphins.

Born in an Ulsan aquarium, the dolphin calf will have a 100-day commemorative celebration thrown for him at his home, Jangsaengpgo Whale Museum, where he will be officially bestowed with the name “Go Jang Su” before 300 adoring attendees.

“Go” is his surname, taken from the dolphin’s father “Go Ah Rong”, and his first name “Jang Su” means “long life” in traditional Chinese characters.

As 50 to 70 percent of dolphins born in captivity don’t make it past their first year, the chosen name reflects the hopes of the aquarium that Jang Su is one of the few to buck that trend.

So far, Jang Su is thriving. Measured at 110 to 120 centimeters long at birth, he is now 140 centimeters long and weighs 40 kilograms.

Despite their hopes, experts ultimately remain pessimistic on Jang Su’s long-term prospects and are treating the dolphin with extreme caution.
