GEYONGSANG, SOUTH KOREA, March 9 (Korea Bizwire) – The North Gyeongsang Provincial Government is helping its citizens install backup cameras in their vehicles in a bid to reduce truck accidents by improving rear visibility.

When owners of trucks over 5t being used for business purposes purchase backup cameras, half of the expense incurred will now be covered, the local government said.

From this year, a total of 9,000 backup cameras are expected to be installed in trucks registered in the province over the next three years.

In 2015, fatal truck accidents took the lives of 24 people, accounting for 16.7 percent of all vehicle accidents.

Trucks, compared with passenger cars, have lower rear visibility, and accidents often happen when drivers are reversing.
