SEOUL, July 3 (Korea Bizwire) — Fashion based on the iconic doll “Barbie” is emerging as a popular trend this summer.
According to fashion retailer Shinsegae International Inc., a variety of fashion brands are launching a range of items, including clothes, accessories, bags, and shoes that incorporate vibrant pink colors.
The pink items come in various shades, including soft pink, deep magenta pink, and peach pink.
The color pink has not been extensively utilized in fashion apparel and accessories due to the perception that it does not match well with Asian skin tones.
“Barbiecore” is rapidly gaining popularity worldwide, driven by the revival of retro and Y2K trends, and the release of the new comedy film ‘Barbie’” said an official at the Shinsegae International.
Sales of pink short-sleeved t-shirts and cardigans recently released by the fashion company LF Corp.’s Patou brand are about twice as high as those of other colors.
LF noted that the number of searches for pink items on its online shopping mall was about 20 percent higher than a year ago as of last month.
