SEJONG, Jan.4 (Korea Bizwire)The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs has announced the creation of a ‘City Beekeeping Program’, an opportunity for city residents who wish to experience beekeeping to learn and try the craft.

A total of 25 local governments will select a bee farm and educate 500 city residents about beekeeping and producing honey, over a period of five months.

The ministry will provide two honeycombs to city residents who participate in the program, and will also offer financial support to the bee farms offering educational programs.

The Korea Beekeeping Association plans to develop an application which will allow participants to share information about beekeeping, and track the status of their beehives remotely.

The ministry hopes that through its beekeeping program, city residents can gain a better understanding of beekeeping, and the craft could also serve as a source of income after retirement.
