SEOUL, Feb. 27 (Korea Bizwire) — The number of people who benefited from pregnancy credits offered by the state pension service surged more than twentyfold over the past six years, data showed Tuesday.
According to the data by the National Pension Service, a total of 888 people benefited from having more than two children in 2017, up from 42 tallied in 2011.
Those who have signed up to be insured are given more benefits and can enjoy longer support. The program was first introduced in 2008 as part of efforts to curb the low birthrate.
A total of 13.7 million won (US$12,860) was paid for such credits in 2011, compared with 316 million won in 2017, the data showed.
Of the 888 people, 880 were male and eight were female, the service said.
