SEOUL, South Korea, Aug 22 (Korea Bizwire) – Celebration of one hundredth day of newborns and their first birthday are important milestones for Korean parents with small children. All family members and relatives gather to bless newborns, enjoy the parties, and give some cash gifts to babies’ parents. After collecting the money from their friends and relatives, parents use it to pay for throwing the parties or make it a starting sum for their children’s savings.

However, some Korean parents are giving their children a whole new present these days. Some parents support children in underdeveloped countries under names of their own children. Some donate the gift money from celebrations. A Korean charity foundation ‘Sarangbat’ (translated as ‘love field’) has introduced a story of a mother who donated maternity goods for single moms in need.

Throwing parties and gathering the gift money have become such an important and indispensable event for Koreans that some face troubles that can occur amid giving and taking the money from relatives, thus spoiling the merriness of the party for newborns. Some parents are deciding to turn this money gift tradition into something worth telling to their children when they grow up.
