Best-paying Jobs Are in Electricity, Gas and Water Supply Industries

SEOUL, Sept. 25 (Korea Bizwire)Among South Korea’s major industries, electricity, gas, steam and water supply industries have the highest average monthly pay.

Online job portal Saramin said Tuesday that its analysis of the National Statistical Information Service showed that the total monthly income per person in 18 major industries was tallied at 3.59 million won (US$2,994) on average.

By industry, the electricity, gas, steam and water industries accounted for the highest salaries at an average of 5.84 million won.

Next came financial and insurance industries at 5.66 million won; professional, scientific, technological and service businesses at 4.63 million won; and publishing, media, broadcasting, telecommunications and information services at 4.36 million won.

Furthermore, the manufacturing industry at 3.85 million won, education services at 3.77 million won, and the construction industry at 3.59 million won were found to be above the average.

On the other hand, workers at lodging and restaurant businesses were paid only 2.17 million won on average, only 27 percent of the top wages.

Analyzed by gender, men were paid an average of 4.14 million won, 1.44 million won more than women, who received 2.7 million won.

In particular, the monthly wage gap between men and women in the health and social welfare service industries reached 1.98 million won.

The average number of years of service per industry was the longest in the electricity, gas, steam and water industries at 14 years, followed by the financial and insurance industries at 11.8 years.
