SEOUL, April 6 (Korea Bizwire)The Nowon Police Department announced that the number of bicycle thefts dropped greatly after it started a registration system that makes use of mobile technology.

Nowon residents can download a smartphone application called ‘Nowon Bicycle Guard’, and input the owner’s information, bike identification number, and a picture of the bicycle. A sticker is issued at the nearest police station once the bicycle is registered.

If a bicycle with a sticker goes missing, the owner can report it through the application. As a bike identification number is issued, stolen bicycles can be prevented from being resold.

Police officials explained that the stickers intimidate thieves from stealing the bicycles that are registered. They commented that the data of 33,000 registered bicycles has proven to be very useful in solving cases related to bicycles.
