SEOUL, Aug. 24 (Korea Bizwire)The government is pushing forth a new project that would utilize public big data to solve problems closely related to citizen livelihood, such as the optimal operational management of garbage trucks and designation of recharging facilities for electric cars.

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety revealed yesterday that it was creating a standardized model that would analyze 10 types of big data regarding seven social issues related to the public sector.

The ministry will carry out the project in conjunction with 11 municipalities, including local governments in South Gyeongsang Province, Jeju, and Gyeonggi Province’s Yongin and Namyangju.

South Gyeongsang Province and the city of Boryeong will focus on solving the area’s parking issues.

Gyeonggi Province’s Bucheon and Yongin will analyze garbage collection data to predict the amount of waste collected each day and to find a measure that would best manage collected waste.

Gyeonggi Province’s Namyangju and North Jeolla Province’s Gochang-gun will analyze relevant data to predict the demand for charging facilities for electric cars in the region in order to provide optimal locations for new charging stations.

An official at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety said that the ministry will do its best to support the project in order to carry out scientific administrative efforts based on big data.
