SEOUL, Dec. 3 (Korea Bizwire) – South Korean boy bands BigBang and EXO each collected four trophies at the 2015 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) at Asia World-Expo Arena in Hong Kong on Wednesday, with 10,000 K-pop enthusiasts attending.
BigBang captured the “Song of the Year” award for “Bang Bang Bang” and also nabbed “Artist of the Year.” EXO received the “Album of the Year” with its second album, “EXODUS.”
BigBang earned two more trophies — “Best Music Video” for “Bang Bang Bang” and “Worldwide Favorite Artist.” EXO picked up the “Best Male Group,” “Best Asian Style” and “Global Fans’ Choice” awards.’
“It’s been 10 years since we made our debut,” said BigBang’s TOP. “We’ve gone through so much over the years, and we’re thankful for our families and fans for supporting us all the time.”
SM Entertainment and YG Entertainment, the two leading horses in the industry, dominated the ceremony, with SM taking nine awards and YG earning five.
The “Best Female Group” award went to Girls’ Generation, and one member of the group, Taeyeon, was also named “Best Female Artist” for her solo efforts this year. Park Jin-young was named “Best Male Artist.”
SHINee and Red Velvet got the “Best Dance Performance Group” awards in the male and female categories, respectively, while Hyuna had the “Best Dance Performance Solo” award.
The English duo Pet Shop Boys received the “Worldwide Inspiration Award,” while Jolin Tsai of Taiwan was named the “Best Asian Artist” in Mandarin.
The four-plus hour ceremony featured a performance by Psy, who recently returned with the new album “Chiljip Psy-da,” and another by Pet Shop Boys.
