SEOUL, Jan. 29 (Korea Bizwire) — Block B’s debut single ‘Very Good’ reached the number 1 spot on Japan’s Tower Records National Single Chart on January 26. The single was released on January 21. JYJ and Kat-Tun ranked fourth and fifth on the same chart respectively.
Block B’s debut single has stayed in the five top spots on Oricon’s daily chart since the release date, and fans are expecting that the single will also stay among the top spots on Oricon’s weekly chart.
Block B has been gaining momentum in Japan recently. Several members of AKB48 are known to have attended Block B’s concerts on January 16 and 17. Japanese rock band ‘Golden Bomber’ was also spotted on the concert. Block B’s popularity in Japan increased following a blog post by Golden Bomber’s Jun Utahiroba, in which he posted words complimenting Block B’s music.
Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, the Japanese model and singer often called Japan’s answer to Lady Gaga, tweeted Korean and Japanese versions of Block B’s music videos.
Anticipation has been high for Block B in Japan since their successful showcase, which was hold on December 6, 2014, attracted 5,000 fans. The single ‘Very Good’ was the most pre-ordered single from December 6 to 9.
Block B also drew 18,000 fans to their ‘handshake’ event. Handshake events are Japan’s unique fan meeting events where fans can say hi to their beloved stars while shaking hands with them. Block B’s handshake event was hold for two days in Tokyo and Osaka on January 24 and 25.
Block B’s performance is also going to be covered on TV. The band successfully completed filming of their performance on Nippon TV’s ‘Music Dragon’, which will be aired on February 6.
