SEOUL, Aug. 31 (Korea Bizwire) — According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government, bikers will be able to lap Gyeongbokgung Palace in under 30 minutes starting in mid-September.
After opening the once prohibited road that runs in front of the Blue House to civilians in June, Seoul is taking a step further by announcing plans to convert a portion of the roads and paths around Gyeongbokgung Palace into bike paths.
The move is in part motivated by the surge in Koreans and foreigners who have visited the Blue House gates since June.
Certain portions of the paths surrounding the palace already have designated bike paths laid out, in which case they will be linked with the soon to be installed paths to form a rectangular ring.
Bike paths will either be on sidewalks, roads, or be separately designated, in which case they will be fenced off.
Anticipating high demand for bicycles, the city will install an automated bicycle rental area near the Blue House.
