BMW Overtakes Mercedes-Benz in Cumulative Sales Through September

SEOUL, Oct. 6 (Korea Bizwire)The number of new cars registered last month in South Korea was higher than a year ago thanks to the easing of the disruption in automobile chip supplies.

According to CarIsYou Data Research Center, 141,640 new cars were registered in September, up 17.9 percent year on year and 6 percent month on month.

Of the total, imported vehicles accounted for 26,806 units, up 18.8 percent from a year before.

In terms of new imported car registrations, BMW ranked first with 7,407 units, grabbing the top spot for four straight months.

Even in cumulative sales from January to September, BMW recorded 57,756 units, surpassing Mercedes-Benz (56,110 units) for the first time.

By imported car model, Tesla’s all-electric Model Y ranked first with 1,910 units sold, followed by the BMW 5 series (1,895 units), Mercedes-Benz E Class (1,348 units), and Tesla’s Model 3 (1,223 units).
