Boeing, Korean Air to Open Asia’s Largest Aviation Training Center

SEOUL, March 17 (Korea Bizwire)U.S. aerospace behemoth Boeing said Thursday it will open Asia’s largest aviation training center near Incheon International Airport to train the pilots of Korean Air Co., South Korea’s largest airline.

Boeing and Korean Air have worked together to build the aviation campus on Yeongjong Island since November 2013, and it is set to open in the second half of this year.

Once construction is complete, Korean Air will relocate its full-flight simulators from its training center in Incheon, west of Seoul.

Boeing will also relocate its existing training support staff and equipment to the new facility for Korean Air’s training program. The campus is capable of training 3,500 pilots annually.

In a July report, Boeing estimated 558,000 new commercial airline pilots will need training in the next two decades, with the Asia-Pacific region showing the strongest demand with 226,000.’
