SEOUL, Aug. 25 (Korea Bizwire) – BTS member Suga has issued a heartfelt apology following an investigation by police for operating an electric scooter while under the influence of alcohol.

“I deeply apologize for the disappointment and hurt I caused to my fans and everyone who loves me through my wrongful actions,” Suga wrote in a handwritten note posted on Weverse, a fan community platform, on the afternoon of August 25. “I committed a grave mistake by failing to uphold my responsibility to repay the love I’ve received with actions worthy of that love.”

According to police reports, the incident occurred on the night of August 6, around 11:15 p.m., when Suga was allegedly driving an electric scooter on a street in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, and subsequently fell. The artist’s blood alcohol content was recorded at 0.227%, significantly above the 0.08% threshold for license revocation under South Korea’s Road Traffic Act.

The incident drew widespread criticism, particularly after it was reported that Suga initially told police he had “only had one beer.” His initial apology, in which he referred to the scooter as an “electric kickboard,” also faced backlash, with some perceiving it as an attempt to downplay the seriousness of his actions.

“I was wrong to ride my e-scooter on the sidewalk after drinking that night,” Suga stated in his subsequent apology. “I also regret the confusion caused by my hasty first apology the following day.”

Suga further reflected on the incident, acknowledging the impact of his actions on those who care about him. “I should have been more thoughtful and careful. I realize now that my recklessness has hurt everyone who cares about me. I will strive to avoid making such mistakes in the future and live with the regret of this experience.”

In his apology, Suga also expressed remorse for the strain his actions have placed on his fellow BTS members and the group’s reputation. “This incident has marred the precious memories I’ve created with my bandmates and our fans. I am deeply sorry that my actions have caused them such distress.”

Addressing his fans directly, Suga wrote, “To the fans who have always shown me undeserved love, I am profoundly sorry. I know that no words can truly heal the hurt and disappointment I’ve caused, and I reflect on this every day.”

Suga concluded by stating, “I will accept any criticism, reprimand, and future punishment that comes my way. I sincerely apologize for causing a social issue and disappointing so many people.”

Suga, who is currently fulfilling his mandatory service as a social service worker, appeared at Yongsan Police Station on August 23 for a three-hour investigation. The authorities are expected to move forward with revoking his license and will decide on further action based on the ongoing investigation.
