SEOUL, Feb. 10 (Korea Bizwire) — Monks of the Jogye Order, South Korea’s largest Buddhist sect, have embarked on a pilgrimage to sacred temples in India and Nepal.
Prior to their departure on Thursday, the monks visited the Jogye Temple in downtown Seoul to hold a pre-pilgrimage ritual.
The monks will fly to India and begin the official pilgrimage on Friday, visiting the Bodh Gaya, where Buddha experienced his first spiritual enlightenment, and other sacred locations throughout India and Nepal.
The monks will travel 1,167 kilometers, primarily on foot.
