SEOUL, April 13 (Korea Bizwire) — A group of Buddhist monks and human rights organizations have staged a parade in downtown Seoul calling for peace in Ukraine.
Seven monks from Jogye Order, South Korea’s largest Buddhist sect, and civic activists on Tuesday conduct an “ochetuji” march from the Jogye Temple to the Russian Embassy, calling for peace in Ukraine after Moscow’s invasion of the East European country.
Ochetuji is the Buddhist act of expressing respect for Buddha by lying prostrate on the ground.
“Unspeakable acts of inhumane atrocities are being committed in Ukraine under the excuse of war,” said Ven. Jimong, one of the participants in the protest.
“We stand by the Ukrainian people, distraught with pain and suffering. Here we express our sincerest hope that peace will return in which they can once again dream about their future.”
